Laundry Supervisor

Job Introduction

On a day to basis to ensure the Laundry department runs smoothly. To maintain and over see all linen (including Food & Beverage), sheets, towels and manage the uniform distribution ensuring all items are cleaned and quality controlled to the highest standards at all times and to ensure that the linen porters/general assistants work efficiently and are motivated to take pride in their duties.

Role Responsibility

  • Guest laundry and dry cleaning – to be checked and recorded when sending laundry out and on return.
  • Approve distribution of linen to guestrooms and ensuring all linen is of the highest quality
  • Ensure that the laundry is clean and tidy at all times and a robust opening and closing procedures are implemented.
  • Conduct regular spot checks of all linen cupboards and corridors to ensure that all areas are stocked, organised and clear of dirty linen or rubbish.
  • Ensure all laundry staff are trained and complete all daily, weekly & monthly tasks.
  • Ensure the correct manning levels are maintained at all times to enable the laundry department to work efficiently by completing rotas
  • Regularly check all machines are in good working order and set to the correct dosage.
  • Record and communicate to the Head Housekeeper any reject linen items.
  • Liaise with the Maintenance department and/or suppliers to ensure that any faulty equipment is repaired immediately.
  • Oversee the planned preventive maintenance programme for the laundry equipment.
  • Ensure that weekly and monthly stock takes are being completed and recorded.
  • Monitor laundry costs on a monthly basis reporting findings to the Head Housekeeper.
  • Work in conjunction with the Spa and Food & Beverage departments to ensure that all areas receive the correct levels of towels, bathrobes, napkins and table cloths.
  • Be creative by developing new methods for increasing laundry efficiency.
  • Ensure all extra beds, & cots are stored in an organised manner and any defects are reported immediately to the Head Housekeeper.
  • Follow the lost property procedure for any lost property that may be found amongst any towels or bedding.
  • Ensure that the correct uniform is being worn at all times for all staff within the Housekeeping department.
  • Monitor and maintain all staff uniforms, issue uniform to all new starters, record any damaged items and ensure there is a good supply ready to issue.
  • To liaise with suppliers and contractors when required.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A minimum of 2 years experience within a laundry department of a large hotel.
  • Basic sewing skills would be an advantage to assist when any uniform items may require alterations or repair.  
  • Computer skills to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook at an intermediate level.  
  • To be able to communicate affectively to all levels of staff and guests.
